Antoine Griggs
Voice Faculty
Hello! My name is Antoine Griggs, and I’m honored to be a member of the Houston Voice Studio faculty. I am a professional actor, classical soloist, piano teacher, and chorister, and I am passionate about guiding singers of all backgrounds toward confident, healthy, and expressive vocal performance.
As a teacher, I work with students across a range of styles, including classical, musical theater, and contemporary commercial music, and I tailor each lesson to support your individual goals and artistic growth. Whether you're looking to refine your technique, prepare for an audition, or simply explore your voice, I’m here to help you build a strong foundation rooted in vocal health, musicality, and joy.
My teaching philosophy centers around this simple motto: “I don’t want you to sing just for a season, but for a lifetime.” I believe that every singer deserves tools that promote longevity and freedom in their voice. In lessons, we focus on essential technical elements like breath support, registration transitions, belt mechanics, resonance, and posture. I also integrate vocal anatomy education so that students can better understand how their instrument works, leading to more intentional and confident singing.
With a calm and patient presence, I strive to meet each student where they are. I know firsthand that vocal development is a journey, not a sprint. It takes time, trust, and courage to explore your voice, and I’ll be right beside you as you discover new capabilities and grow your confidence as both a singer and performer.
Beyond technique, I’m especially passionate about helping students break through barriers and connect emotionally to their artistry. Our voice is one of the most personal instruments we have, and I take great pride in helping students feel seen, supported, and empowered to share their authentic sound.
I’m a proud native of Detroit, Michigan, where I began studying voice in middle school. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Voice Performance from Morehouse College and a Master of Arts in Voice Performance from Georgia State University. While at Morehouse, I was a featured member of the world-renowned Morehouse College Glee Club and appeared in numerous operatic productions.
Internationally, I had the privilege of studying in Italy through the Siena Summer Program, where I deepened my understanding of vocal artistry and performance practice. Since relocating to Houston, I’ve become an active performer in both arts and faith-based communities and currently serve as an adjunct voice professor at Texas Southern University. I also teach private piano and voice lessons through Lessons In Your Home.
